Couplings

  • Having already experimented with making my artwork move via micro-servo motors in the Garden series, I chanced upon a method of allowing the spectator direct control of the contents of a painting. Using powerful neodymium magnets controlled by one’s fingers in the back of the frame allows a spectator to rearrange the pieces into unlimited configurations. More interestingly, perhaps, is that the process of moving the pieces around feels intimate and personal. While the spectator is dictating the movement for the most part, the properties of the magnets also contribute a fun unpredictability to the whole affair. I really enjoy interacting with these creations.
