Having already used printed cut-out shapes for the Couplings series, I was curious to try the same technique with oil pastels on paper. Initially intending to create one collage with the shapes proved unsatisfactory, as I could not decide on a final formation: Each composition seemed worthy of being a finished piece in its own way. I then thought, “What if there is no final collage?” The nature of the work is indefinite. So, as of now, each piece consists of its shapes residing in a bag until time calls for exhibition. At that point, a finished composition may emerge or, more intriguingly, the collage may change over time during the exhibition.
