Gray World

  • Over twenty years after having made my last piece of visual art, I found myself drawing on a Wacom digital tablet once again, this time a cheap 8” x 6” model that I found lying around at my place of employment. Using the clean and simple vector-based app Sketchpad instead of the now bulky and overblown Photoshop, the paintings started to flow again. Working mainly at night at first and then eventually during the day when my job ended, I created over two hundred paintings in about five months. The assurance and clarity of style surprised me as these fantastical abstract creatures, objects, and settings took shape. I had no idea that these visual artifacts existed within my latent psyche, and I was thrilled to give life to them. To this day, the Gray World series remains the favorite of my work to date.
